Block Method for Increasing Saturation

The block method is designed to increase saturation without increasing color noise. It makes use of layers and is as easy as duplicating layers.

  1. Open your image
  2. Make two copies by dragging it twice to the tiny copy icon in the Layers Palette
  3. Change the topmost layer's blend mode to Luminosity and the middle layer's mode to Soft Light.
  4. Merge the layers
  5. If you want more saturation, repeat steps 2-4. Some people suggest that you should alternate Luminosity with Screen Mode if you iterate, so try that to see what happens. Remember that you can always change the opacity of layers to adjust the result.
  6. Save the merged layers.
